Disney Cruise Line Revises Kids Club Age Ranges

The main room is also the beginning of a ship-wide adventure where kids will become explorers and hunt for clues. On ships where both are present, the Club and Lab are connected with a secure, kids-only hallway, so children can go between the two areas freely. Because of the computer chip in the bands, counselors can check in a computer at any given time and know exactly where a child is. The child will tap their band to a scanner at the club’s entrance when checking in and out. This pulls up their information in the computer for the counselors. A password will be required by the adult checking the children out.

Disney’s Oceaneer Club & It’s A Small World Nursery Walkthrough Video

We always authorized our older daughter so she could run and get her from the Club in case we were busy. There are times during the voyage other than embarkation day, that the one of the spaces may have an open house. When this occurs, children are moved securely to the other space to maintain the secured programing while the other space is open for all passengers with or without children to experience the space.

Disney’s Oceaneer Club & Lab Age Ranges

The Disney cruise kids clubs start with the It's a Small World Nursery for babies and toddlers. Its biggest kids clubs are the Oceaneer Club and Lab, connected spaces for preschool to elementary school age kids. Tweens and teens also have their own lounge spaces, called Edge and Vibe, respectively. The Disney Wonder returned from her extensive dry dock in 2016 with revitalized youth spaces for children ages 3-12 to explore.

Disney Cruise Kids Clubs – Final Thoughts

Disney Cruise Line has one of the best kids' programs at sea, with age-appropriate hangout and play spaces for babies through older teens. Learn more about Disney's Oceaneer Club and Lab, Edge, Vibe and the It's a Small World Nursery to see just what makes the line's kids clubs so beloved by cruising families. Kids and adults of any age may visit and engage with the activities during Open House hours.

Parents should plan on checking in their kids for the programs on Embarkation Day. Kids don’t have to participate then, but that’s the best time to complete the paperwork, get your child’s ID bracelet, and learn the check-in/check-out system. Check the Disney Cruise Line app for check-in times once you’re onboard. Parents can also receive messages using the DCL app on their mobile devices. The entrance to both spaces are access controlled by the activity counselors. You can register them online in advance of your cruise, which gets them enrolled and sets their check-in/check-out privileges.

Another cool feature is that the AquaDuck water coaster winds through the funnel and three portholes in Edge give silhouetted views of the riders as they zip through the funnel. There are activities featuring some of your favorite Disney characters, including friends from Disney Junior. Our younger daughter has recently been heading to the Vibe, but enjoyed going to the Club for many years. She was always able to find stuff to do and loved the activities.

Activities could include puzzles and games with incorporating Disney Junior shows like Doc McStuffins, a coronation with the princesses Ana and Elsa, a talent show or interactive story time. Scheduled events might include karaoke, improv class, trivia games, foosball or video game challenges, crafts, scavenger hunts, and parties with photo booths and dancing. Our mission is to help you save time and money on your vacation. Your TouringPlans.com subscription helps us to help you by funding new articles and research. Just like the adult clubs, Vibe offers a fountain bar serving non-alcoholic drinks, such as soda, juice, smoothies, and coffee drinks.

You can tour all the kid’s clubs at this time – it is a great opportunity to see what is available. Pack a bag that is clearly labeled for your child with extra items such as a change of clothing, a special blanket, a pacifier, or perhaps a favorite toy. The exception is the It's a Small World Nursery, which charges by the hour. The fee is $9 per child per hour ($8 for each additional child within the same family). You can cancel up to four hours before your reservation time with no penalty. On ships with a separate Oceaneer Club and Lab, the Club activities will skew a bit younger and the Lab activities a bit older.

Nursery Reservations Once Again Available for the Disney Cruise Line Ships

The Disney Magic returned from her extensive dry dock with all new youth spaces for children ages 3-12 to explore. The Oceaneer Lab and Oceaneer Club were completely renovated to bring the youth activities venues more in line with those aboard the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. The Oceaneer Lab renovations were based on a nautical theme full of high-tech gear to bring out the inner-pirate. Leading up to the re-launch, Imagineer Joe Lanzisero described the Oceaneer Lab as a “mashup of Jules Vern and Pirates of the Caribbean”. The Oceaneer Club transformed into a magical library where oversized books serve as doorways into four unique spaces.

The central area of the lab features a checker board floor with an interactive screen and comfy bean bag chairs on the back wall. The are different spaces for each age Group so all kids are with the same age Groups. On all the ships there is a corridor connecting the spaces, but this is more for the older children to use so they can go between the different areas if they want. From karaoke to video games, puzzles, challenges, and scavenger hunts to arts and crafts, there is something to appeal to all in this Disney Cruise Kids Club age group.

Chairs and loungers are great for sunbathing, and when the sun gets too hot, there are two wading pools, fountains, jets, and misters to help cool you down. If sunbathing isn’t your thing, ping pong and foosball are available as well. One of the great things about Edge’s location in the funnel is the views of the pool decks below. The windows are made so that kids can see out, but guests on the decks can’t see in.

My children have all formed some long-lasting friendships with people who they met in Disney Cruise Edge because of how the space on each ship is designed to appeal to that age group. The Disney Cruise Line provides structured youth activities and programs to meet the needs of both children and families. They are categorized by specific age groups and offer tailored spaces for each group.

The space is practically identical to the sister lab on the Disney Magic; the only major difference is some technical upgrades which allow for more floor space especially in the wheelhouse area. Looking back a few years to the promo hype for the Magic’s re-imagination, Imagineer Joe Lanzisero described the Oceaneer Lab as a “mashup of Jules Vern and Pirates of the Caribbean”. If you recall, in March, we ventured over to Typhoon Lagoon to experience the new Miss Adventure Falls family raft ride which featured a misadventure of Mary Oceaneer. Shortly after publishing that article, Imagineer Danny Hanke let us know the characters were adapted from the Oceaneer Lab on the Magic & Wonder.
